Links for gay birding and similar organisations
- GAGGLE - a lesbian and gay birders group in Greater Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Well worth visiting if you are a lesbian or gay birder in the USA.
- Gay Outdoor Club - home page for the popular UK-based club. Covers interests in walking, mountaineering, rock climbing, cycling, swimming etc.
- IGLOO (International Gay & Lesbian Outdoor Organizations) - resources for gay outdoor groups across the world
UK birding links
- Wildsounds - a company run by our own Duncan Macdonald. Major stockist of all wildlife sound recordings and now also a major distributor of bird books. Also videos and sound recording equipment.
- Surfbirds - a great magazine site for UK/US birding issues, including some great I.D. features.
- The Fat Birder - a great site with all kinds of information for all levels of birding ability.
- Birdguides A commercial site which includes regular updates of rare bird news from the Birdnet pager service.
- Internet Flyway - Where to find birds and birders world-wide.
- Birding and Natural History Links - James Cracknell's page of links
- The Wildlife Web - Paul Doyle's long established Scottish site. Includes a guide to birding sites in Scotland, a list of bird related conferences and an information page for bird sightings in Aberdeenshire.
UK ornithological and nature conservation organisations
- Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - protects birds and wildlife sites in the UK on behalf of more than 1 million members.
- The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust - manages an impressive array of wildfowl reserves throughout Britain, including Slimbridge.
- British Trust for Ornithology - a research organisation which coordinates a number of major surveys, including Atlases, Breeding Bird Survey, Wetlands Bird Survey etc.
- British Ornithologists Union - mainly an academic organisation, but responsible for maintaining the British list.
- Rare Breeding Birds Panel - a panel for compiling information on the fortunes of rare breeding birds in the UK.
- Worldwide Fund for Nature Global Network - an excellent site for this organisation devoted to wildlife conservation across the world.
- The Wildlife Trusts' Partnership - the umbrella organisation for the local nature conservation trusts.
- Joint Nature Conservation Committee - the government body co-ordinating nature conservation in the UK.
- English Nature - the government body dealing with nature conservation in England.
- Scottish Natural Heritage - the government body dealing with nature conservation and the countryside in Scotland.
- Countryside Council for Wales - the government body dealing with nature conservation and the countryside in Wales.
- Environment and Heritage Service, Northern Ireland - the government body dealing with nature conservation and the countryside in Northern Ireland

- Birdwatching in the Netherlands Dutch Birding - appears to have taken over from Rolf de By's well known web site.

- American Birding Association Online - a large organisation for field birders in USA.
- Audubon Society - large membership organisation geared to conservation of natural ecosystems.
- American Ornithologists' Union - an organisation devoted to the scientific study of birds.
- Peterson on line - an online magazine for birders. Many popular articles about birds.
- The Virtual Birder - another internet magazine for birders.
- North American Rare Bird Alert - current news on North American rarities.
- Birding Canada - lots of information about Canadian birds and birding.
- Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology - sound recordings galore, mainly for North American birds, but the labs collecting wildlife recordings from across the world.
Worldwide birding links
- Birding on the Web - Jack Siler and Willem-Pier Vellinga's very comprehensive resources and links site
- Birder Home Page - a very well constructed web site giving many links to birders resources.
- WebDirectory Bird Links - a jumble of links to a wide diversity of wild and caged bird sites.
- Where do you want to go birding today ? - Probably the most comprehensive set of links for birding sites. I doubt there is anywhere in the world which has been missed out.
Seabird sites
- Ocean Wanderers - Angus Wilson's identification resource. Includes taxonomic list for all the seabirds and marine mammals.
- Brian Patteson Pelagics - a fantastic site giving a lot of information about pelagic trips organised off North Carolina. Lots of pictures, including a new species for the North American list.
- Shearwater Journeys Home Page - Debra Love Shearwater's site for pelagic trips out of Monterey Bay, California. Anyone with a name like this has to be into seabirds, big time.
- Tony Pallisers Pelagic Home Page - Australian equivalent of the two American sites. Also lots of pictures.
Elsewhere in the world
- Australian Birding - a great starting point for information about birding in Australia and a good set of antipodean links
- New Zealand Birds - and the same for New Zealand.
- Birding Egypt - useful information for birding in Egypt, including travel tips.
Other sites of interest to birders
- NHBS Ltd. - an excellent natural history book catalogue and ordering service.
- Urs Geiser's trip reports - trip reports posted by birders for all corners of the earth. A free resource.
- Optics for Birding - a great site to look at if choosing new binoculars or teleescope.
- Foreign & Commonwealth Office - good advice about visiting overseas countries. The advice tends to be a bit precautionary. However, when they advise on not visiting a particular country, don't count on being able to get any travel insurance for there. This site has become “LGBT friendly”.
- 3 Day Europe Surface Pressure Animation - a weather map showing isobars and fronts for Europe for the next 3 days
- European Medium Range Weather Forecast - probably one of the most accurate weather forecasting tools for 3 - 6 days ahead. Covers a large area. Great for finding out what the winds are going to be doing and have fun predicting what migrant birds it will bring. No information about fronts unfortunately.
Gay and Lesbian Links
- Stonewall - national organisation campaigning for equality for lesbians and gays in the UK. Plenty of information about how you can help their latest campaigns.
- UK Gay.com - one of the best sites for anything gay/lesbian and some of the busiest chat rooms you will find.
- SHOE INTERNATIONAL is new, cool and fresh - It's GIRL POWER worldwide!!!
- UK Gay - a commercial site and more gay links.
- Queer Resources Directory - lots of email list servers.
- ScotsGay - site for the free magazine covering Scottish gay-lesbian life. Links and local information kept very up-to-date.
- Gay Times - national magazine containing Gay News and much other information.
- Out in the UK - a non-commercial site for gay men in the UK.
- Gay to Z Directory - lots of information about other gay/lesbian sites and events.
- Gay London News - based in London, or just visiting then this is the site for you.
- Irelands Pink Pages - a great resource for virtually everything you wanted to know about Gay / Lesbian Ireland
